Pesticide Training Courses

Pesticides are very widely and successfully used in land-based industries. Pesticides are potentially harmful substances and it is essential that they are handled, applied and stored by people who have received proper training. These courses are aimed at landscape contractors, greenkeepers, local authorities and farmers.

Use of pesticides is governed by the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA), the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH).

The regulations require employers to ensure that pesticides are applied only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. If you are self-employed, the regulations still apply.

In certain circumstances employees must also be assessed and acquire a Certificate of Competence.

We offer the following one day pesticide training course:

Safe Use of Pesticides (level 2 award)  – known as PA1, this course is mandatory for all pesticide users, regardless of the method of application. It covers regulations relating to pesticides, as well as understanding product information, managing personal and environmental hazards and dealing with incidents. To use pesticides you must hold this qualification AND another relating to the application method. The application methods we offer are listed below.

Safe Application of Pesticides using vehicle mounted boom sprayer equipment (level 2 award) – known as PA2.

Safe Application of Pesticide using Hand Held Equipment (level 2 award) – known as PA6A

PA6AW

Safe Operation of Hand Held Pesticide Stem Injection Equipment (level 2 award) – known as PA6INJ

Safe Operation of Pesticide Plug Equipment (level 2 award) – known as PA6PP

All courses have a second, separate assessment day, and are registered with Lantra. We supply all the materials necessary for training, except wellington boots which learners should supply. Hire of wellingtons can be arranged if necessary.
