Junior tractor driving is a two day course, registered with Lantra and receiving an attendance certificate. It is aimed at you people with an interest in tractor driving, no experience necessary. The course focuses on teaching young drivers to confidently manoeuvre a tractor and trailer while prioritising safety, it does not cover the use of PTOs.
The course covers the following:
- Health and Safety relating to tractors, including risk assessment
- Understanding the purpose and function of instrumentation & controls
- Competently performing checks, including daily checks and maintenance checks of lubrication, cooling and air intake of the engine
- Safe driving of the tractor in a forwards and reverse direction, using safe start and stop methods to leave the tractor in a safe state
There are optional modules to cover:
- Attaching a mounted implement and manoeuvring in a forwards and reverse direction
- Attaching a trailed implement and manoeuvring in a forwards and reverse direction
