Pesticide Training Courses
To apply pesticides in a professional setting, you must be qualified. This involves the completion of two modules, Safe Use of Pesticides, which is a theory module, and an additional “application” module.
We offer the following one day pesticide training courses:
Safe Use of Pesticides (level 2 award) – known as PA1, this course is mandatory for all pesticide users, regardless of the method of application. It covers regulations relating to pesticides, as well as understanding product information, managing personal and environmental hazards and dealing with incidents. To use pesticides you must hold this qualification AND another relating to the application method.

The application methods we offer are listed below:
- Safe Application of Pesticides using vehicle mounted boom sprayer equipment – known as PA2.
- Safe Application of Pesticides using granular applicator – known as PA4
- Safe Application of Pesticide using Hand Held Equipment – known as PA6A
- Safe Application of Pesticide using Hand Held Equipment on or near water – known as PA6AW
- Safe Operation of Hand Held Pesticide Stem Injection Equipment – known as PA6INJ
- Safe Operation of Pesticide Plug Equipment – known as PA6PP
- Mounted or Trailed Wick Type Applicators (Weed Wipers) – known as PA2F
Please note, all of the above qualifications are “Level 2 Awards”.
All courses have a separate assessment day, and are registered with Lantra. We supply all the materials necessary for training, except wellington boots which learners should supply. Hire of wellingtons can be arranged if necessary.
We also offer half day refresher course options for all of the above trainings.

Awareness of Integrated Weed Management
Companies and individuals are increasingly choosing to limit or avoid the use of chemical pesticides. Its important to be able to consider the use of non-chemical alternatives, alongside or as alternatives to chemical options in order to create an integrated approach to weed management that is both effective and sustainable.

Course:
Identification of Invasive and Injurious Species
This course was developed by Lantra as a direct response to the need to control and eradicate non-native invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed.
The course covers identification and actions to be taken in relation to:
- Invasive Plant Species, with particular focus on Fallopia Species (Japanese Knotweed)
- Invasive Non-Native Insects
- Invasive Non-Native Vertebrates
- Injurious Species
- Injurious Insect and Reptile Species
