Horticulture Training

We offer horticulture training for people working in a range of job roles and industries.

If you want to work in landscaping, you’ll likely need a ticket for each of the machines that you use. Some of the most popular courses for landscape operatives are brushcutters and ride on mowers. You might also consider Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT and Genny).

Many clients will ask for evidence of your health and safety training, so you could go for something like health and safety for landbased operatives (ROLO), or Highfield Level 3 Award in Health and Safety

If you’re looking to become a gardener, working in domestic gardens, your customers are less likely to ask about formal qualifications. That doesn’t mean you can forget about them though, much health and safety legislation require you to be competent (which isn’t the same as qualified, but a qualification does go some way to proving competence) and your insurance provider will have their own requirements. As a gardener, you might want to consider courses for pedestrian mowers, trimmers and hedgecutters.

In any role, if you want to use pesticides you’ll need to complete two qualifications. The first is Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) which focuses on understanding the chemicals you work with. The second qualification is specific to the method of application. We offer the following options:

  • PA2a: tractor and boom sprayer
  • PA6a: Knapsack and hand lance (sprayer)
  • PA6AW: application using a knapsack and hand lance, on or near water.
  • PA6PP: Pesticide Plugs
  • PA6INJ: stem injection

And, of course, everyone would benefit from a first aid qualification.
